Following 25 years in private medical practice in internal medicine, he joined the fulltime faculty of Long Island Jewish Medical Center where he eventually became Medical Director. Dr. Gitman then transitioned to a health system role, serving as the Vice President of Medical Affairs for the North Shore Long Island Jewish Health System (Northwell Health) until 2009 when he retired.
