The purchase of its own shares by a business will decrease total book value. Book value per share will decrease if more is paid for them than was received when originally issued. Dividends paid out will decrease book value per share value.

On June 23, 2020, GNC Holdings, Inc., along with its affiliates, filed a voluntary petition for reorganization under Chapter 11 in the US Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware.
